Abstract

Mobile devices are widely owned. Research on mobile learning across educational domains has demonstrated benefits such as improvements in technology skill, utility for teachers and students, and meaning in the lives of adolescents. This is a brief report on a literature review and pilot study which reviewed school-level mobile device use policies. The sample was 25 public high schools, as well as district-level mobile device use policies at the 4 public school districts from which the sample was selected. Policies were retrieved from publically-available school websites, and classified as allowed, selectively allowed, or prohibitive. Findings for the school-level and district-level policies and and five areas for further inquiry are briefly discussed.
