Abstract

This paper aims to describe the design of a web based writing artefact based on the 10 characteristics that constitute authentic tasks proposed by Herrington, Oliver and Reeves (2003), and how these characteristics can be used in Computer Assisted Language Learning context to design an engaging, meaningful, contextualized, collaborative and authentic learning environment. Furthermore, the 10 characteristics will be used to show how the four approaches suggested by Butler-Pascoe and Wiburg (2003) can be integrated in a web based course to develop language learners' writing skills further.
