Abstract

We developed the Video Chip Board software that helps learners to learn video-making. It is a study tool to learn video-making by arranging and connecting well-formed video fragments named video chips. A learner can adopt the trial and error method in this tool. Since the learner's ideas are visualized on a board, when the arrangements and link connections of video chips are performed to enable collaborative learning, it not only reflects the learner's editorial policy but also promotes awareness from other learners' viewpoints. However, in the previous video editing software, others' ideas were not visualized and it was difficult to determine their way of thinking. Thus, the video chip board realizes an important and new method for learning video-making. First, we use the video chip board as an introductory tool for learning to edit a short documentary and thereafter we analyze its effectiveness.
