Abstract

The purpose of the Virtual Soils Laboratory was to create an Internet-based platform for the laboratory portion of the Cooper Union CE131 Soils Mechanics course. This project achieved in merging the text manual and data processing program for the first five fundamental experiments of the course in a user-friendly and interactive, web-based environment. It proved to enhance the learning experiences and understandings of the students using the software. The Virtual Soils Laboratory is the first step in setting up a foundation for future web-based educational packages at the Cooper Union Civil Engineering Department.
