Abstract

This project deals with an important aspect of the validation of the simulator that is used in the Point Lepreau Generating Station for training or updating the staff. The scope of simulation shall be such that operators are required to take the same action on the simulator during a training exercise as is required on the plant. In order to avoid negative training and run the plant safely and predictably it is recommended that a validation be done every two years. The audit process documented here is used to determine discrepancies between the simulator and the plant, to see if it possesses the capability to provide the required observable simulated control room responses or not. An efficient method of simulator audit is presented using original tables. A transparent method is presented in conclusions where in one table is shown simulator data, plant data, variations, discrepancies, diagnoses and comments. It is shown here that discrepancies are more concentrated in: Moderator Heat Exchanger, Moderator System Variables, Pressurized Parameters, Boiler Level Wide Range, and Condenser Vacuum Parameters.

Results of such an audit in most of cases, in every plant, will inevitably show some discrepancies between the plant data and simulator data. According to the results of the audit it is recommended that the parameters that do not meet the requirements of the CNSC (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission) formerly AECB (Atomic Energy Control Board) be investigated and corrected if necessary.
