Abstract
This paper will discuss research conducted for a Master's thesis in Visual Communication Design completed at the University of Alberta. A prototype for a digital learning resource was developed for a course offered to first year Aboriginal students at the University of Alberta. The purpose of this study was to raise important considerations for non-Aboriginal designers working in cross-cultural contexts and to develop a prototype that explores how linked digital media can enrich students' appreciation of Aboriginal Canadian Literature. In this paper I will discuss the design criteria developed as a result of the study, the preliminary paper prototype developed and finally future directions for research and testing of the prototype.
