Abstract
The Avenue platform, designed and developed by faculty and staff in Learning Technologies, Educational Psychology, and the LT Media Lab at the University of Minnesota, is an innovative online performance assessment framework comprised of two environments: 1) AvenueASL, an e-assessment system for postsecondary American Sign Language learners, and 2) AvenueDHH, a progress-monitoring environment for reading, writing, and language development with deaf or hard-of-hearing students in grades K-8. In this paper, we present a description of these environments with the aim of challenging designers, researchers, teachers, and students to re-envision technology-mediated feedback, especially in the contexts of world language, reading, and writing development.
